As the world of politics and policy changes, one of the most important tools available to policy makers, civic leaders and businesses in the West is the Center for the New West. The Center focuses on the West for one simple reason: the region increasingly leads the United States in most indices of progress – population growth, job creation, political reform movements, new technologies and innovations, educational achievement and institutional reform. We also focus on the West because the West is unique: in its climate, its terrain, and its relationship to the federal government.
The Center understands the West’s past – our rich history. We approach the policy environment with a strong belief in the grandest traditions of the West – freedom, big dreams, limited government and local control, self-reliance, personal responsibility and wise stewardship of the land and its resources.
The Center specializes in research communications – in creating and communicating content in demand by our leaders. We have a fourteen year history of convening leadership summits that attract participation by key stakeholders and coverage by major national and regional media. Our summit-based and research-based policy reports provide clear information on complex issues that are closely followed by business, political and opinion leaders across the nation.
There is not one in the West who can bring people together like the Center. In a region that is too often polarized between industry and the environment or town and country, the Center’s ability to bring people together to get them working toward practical, consensual solutions is indispensable.
The West needs a platform. Virtually every policy decision made in the United States is done to satisfy interests between Boston and Washington. The Center provides a platform for western leaders to inject the interests of the West into the national decision-making process.
